Mixed Media
Many of the projects I work on require multiple mediums, and various materials including wood, 3D printed plastic filament, paper, and polymer clay to achieve a specific texture. All these components come together not just as an imitation, but to create a tactile story.
Participation
Graphite, Pastel, and Charcoal on paper.
Inspired by the Feminist Art Movement, Art History, and the escalated presence of ICE in Minnesota as retaliation for the state’s liberal values, this work commentates on the expectations of every day people to exist within oppressive systems, while at the same time, living their daily lives.
This work considers the extreme cases of participation where individuals, and public figures ultimately aim to rise within the bounds of these cruel structures. How much personal blame can be placed on people who cooperate, while still analyzing the circumstances that informed the decision?
Redlining
3D Printed filament, acrylic paint, sand, glue, and found materials.
A miniature diorama that portrays a modern example of subtle, systemic racism, and current day poverty through a lack of generational wealth, and economic policies that primarily target, and effect Black, Indigenous, and Latino communities.
Three tiles represent three different neighborhoods: lower, middle, and upper class. While no human subjects are shown, viewers should reflect on their own experiences, biases, and how the communities around them are affected.
Dagashi Shop
Wood, polymer clay, acrylic paint, paper, glue, and found materials.
Based on Dagashiya, or Japanese penny stores, they’re a nostalgic part of the country’s Post World War II history. Cheap candy, toys, drinks, and manga make up the store’s inventory.
The roof is removable, allowing the viewer to see both the interior, and exterior environments.
Just Desserts
3D printed filament, polymer clay, glue, and found materials.
A series of 9 desserts made out of polymer clay, and 3D printed plastic filament that features cakes, chocolate, cookies, and ice cream among other goodies.
Trinket Salad
Cyanotype, found objects, natural materials, and paper.
A hand-bound booklet containing cyanotypes with various human, and nature made objects. The title is a play on the cover, and phrase “word salad.”
The Loft House
Wood, polymer clay, acrylic paint, paper, glue, and found materials.
This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom loft gets plenty of sunshine for its plants, and cat to bathe in. It features a state of the art media center, and nostalgic Easter eggs for the viewer to find.
