Printmaking
One of the more recent mediums in my toolbox, I appreciate the tactile nature, and the tangible process of relief printmaking. I enjoy researching various time periods, locations, and styles in order to create something contemporary, while paying homage to its worldwide history.
Foremost
To be the best, well known, or prominent.
This experimental project focuses on typography, and color, and visual storytelling. Inspired by black-letter calligraphy that emerged during the Medieval era, but updated with modern graphic design designs. Red was chosen to contrast the dark, sinking black.
Eros & Psyche
Based on the Greek love story of Eros (Cupid), and Psyche, who was famed for her beauty amongst mortals. Eros’ mother, and the goddess of love, Aphrodite, instructed her son to make Psyche fall for a vile creature out of jealousy. Instead, Eros himself fell for Psyche, and whisks her away to a grand castle. Only ever having heard his voice, Psyche eventually grew curious about her husband, and one night, attempted to see his true form. This resulted in Eros fleeing, and Psyche beginning her quest of finding her lost lover. The story ends with the two united, and with Psyche also made immortal so their love would be ever lasting.
This story is reimagined as a Queer love story featuring the gender non-conforming couple while still keeping true to the original tale. References to the myth include an oil lamp burn on Eros’ arm, the wings covering their face, and the Greek key pattern that surrounds the figures. The colors of red, and pink were chosen to represent passion, and black to provide bold contrast.
